Your cyber security tip of the week is more of a cyber security fact this week. This report really puts things into perspective. The information is not entirely surprising to us (not at all, rather) and we’re sure you will agree.
Let’s start with the title of this article. It says it all:
According to the Online Trust Alliance (OTA) the number of cyber incidents doubled in 2017 yet 93% could easily have been prevented.
After the headlines this year, both the type and the frequency of them, we didn't really need the experts to verify this information. We know and have known for a while that cyber crime is getting worse with time, the attacks are increasing by the minute, the economic implications are too high, and our systems have become more vulnerable.
“Out of nearly 160,000 reported cyber incidents affecting businesses in 2017, 93 percent could have been prevented by following basic security measures such as regularly updating software, blocking fake email messages, using email authentication, and training employees.”
